Elopement Wedding in New York City | Matt + Gee

Matt & Gee chose New York City as their elopement destination because of the city's energy and architecture and because it was their dream. I believe that the latter is the most important aspect of any decision.

They inquired with me about their elopement wedding in New York about four months before their date, so we started planning their day right away.

Elopement Planning Process for New York

First off, we hopped on a Zoom call to discuss their dreams, plans, and vision for their elopement in NYC, and we agreed on the must-visit locations:

These three locations became a core for their future elopement itinerary.

Since Matt & Gee picked a 5-hour elopement package with me, we had enough time to stroll around Dumbo and Brooklyn Heights, stop for a short coffee break and even grab ice cream before heading out to the Rockefeller Center. Oh, and they were so excited to have images from the NY metro (subway) that we took train 7 from Brooklyn to mid-town Manhattan and walked past the famous Radio City Music Hall towards our final destination for the day, Top of the Rock.

Now let's dial back to the beginning of the day and dig into some details. If you are here because you are planning to elope in New York, don't skip this part!

I asked Matt and Gee what's more important to them, less crowded spaces or a late start with the end of the photoshoot at around sunset. Their answer was definitive - less busy major locations. For that reason, we planned their 5-hour session for the first half of the day.

Elopement Officiant in New York

Their beautiful elopement ceremony was performed by one of the Honeybreak Officiants. I highly recommend them to anyone planning their elopement ceremony in New York City. Honeybreak Officiants handle all the official paperwork, and it is a breeze working with them. Every wedding ceremony in New York requires at least one witness. I was the witness besides being their photographer for Matt & Gee. Loved that! They were not the first couple I served as a witness and a photographer at the same time.

  • 8:30 am - wedding ceremony by the Janes Carousel with the view of lower Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridge

  • 9 am - Brooklyn Heights

  • 10 am - Brooklyn Bridge

This elopement was a quintessential experience of the Big Apple, with its iconic views, coffee, ice cream, subway trains, and a rooftop. The weather was simply perfect, which was very lucky considering it was early March.

Last but not least, it was my first elopement where I experimented with a hybrid photo/video coverage for my clients.
